Cool new camera tech
This has probably been linked over at pirate, but I hardly ever take time to visit this site, much less that one. Anyway, I thought this was pretty damn cool. One could make a poor man's version with a regular LCD instead of HUD for some precise tire placement goodness... http://www.motorauthority.c...

depends on how much? running or not? $150 Yep, it ran just fine. I only bought the truck for the rest of the drivetrain so the engine has been mounted on a stand in my shed ever since. It must have some sort of seal leak due to the coating of rust-preventative on it (oil). Didn't smoke or anything ...

infinitely variable transmission -- cool video
This stuff is neat... an infinitely variable transmission that uses no friction components... its all gear-on-gear action, which means it can be made to handle loads of torque. I wonder if we'll ever seen anything like this make it into a 4x4. http://www.gizmag.com/steve-durnin-ddrive-d-drive-infini...

Well I don't have much know-how since I haven't done anything yet... but I would second the Toyota drivetrain, from the tranny all the way back if you go with more than the VW 1.6TD. If he's never gonna want any more power than that, you can stick with the samurai tranny and tcase, but I would still...

King-size waterbed for free
I'm having a new bed delivered tomorrow, so I need to get rid of our current king-size waterbed. It's old, big, and not very pretty, but it is functional... has shelves, cabinets, and a LOT of storage drawers and compartments underneath. So, who wants it?

Diesel tachometer
I just found out about this thing and I'm considering using this as a tach for my samurai/VW swap... just thought it might interest some of you (they make versions for gas engines too).

I remembered I forgot to post an update about this. The guy selling this stuff decided the engine was trash and tossed it. So it became just a tranny and tcase. Stallings graciously picked it up for me and has been storing it at his place. So, next time someone's up that way, if you've got room for ...

Thought I'd give an update since I tried it out for the first time today. Here's how it turned out: http://www.sc4wda.org.vt.edu/members/maybs/004-1.jpg I used a $10 siphon-feed blaster and play sand from Homo Depot: http://www.sc4wda.org.vt.edu/members/maybs/005-1.jpg I screened the sand using an o...
