'79 F-150 build-up

Post by VerticalTRX »

Well, since some people have been asking about the rig that I've been building I figured its about time I did a build-up thread on it. Specs as of now are follows:

-'79 F-150
-D44
-9" w/ mini-spool, 4.10's
-NP205
-NP435 (6.69:1 first)
-351M (GT-40 351w is waiting on the engine stand for assembly)

-Hacked off behind the cab with new frame and tube flat bed
-In-board mounted rear leaves
-extended radius arms and custom x-member
-4" Skyjacker coils front
-34x10.50-15 LTB's
-lots of misc. little stuff

Here's what I started with, a $500 basket case:

Swiss Cheese anyone?:

No turning back now:

New rear frame...pure straight-truck style, lol:

More pics to come directly....

Some shots from today, first time out.

Yeah yeah, some poser shots, had to measure for shocks somehow:

So yeah, its nothing too extreme, but I mostly just built it to have something fun to wheel.

Here you can see the extended rad. arms, they are just under 4' long:

Back end, with the only bling on the truck, $40 a pop LED tail-lights:

fatty, they are 34x10.50's. When they are worn out and I get another set of axles built for it (prolly 609 hybrid front, 9" FF rear), I'll run 36x12.50-15 SX's

Well if I can break 3/4 ton F-250 drivetrain with just 33" A/T's, I don't think that a d44 and 9" would hold up well with 40's :thumby:

Got a good bit more work done this weekend (thanks Tyler), although I didn't get the motor dropped in which I was really hoping to. Ran into a few issues with clutch fitment and motor mounts; hopefully next weekend all should go well and we'll finally get to hear this beast fire.

Completed motor:

Sitting outside the shop, cab finally back on:

Me installing the flywheel, motor-mounts, etc:

Image

Painted the floor pan with roll-on bedliner, Dupli-color brand from Advance.

Image

Tube doors:

Things left to do before its driveable:
-install motor and accessories
-exhaust
-paint and install front clip

Before its really wheelable:
-new brakes all around
-lock-rite in the D44
-sliders

More updates coming soon.

Thanks, I can't wait to see it back down here again either. I only got to really wheel it three times between the first and second stages of the buildup. Now hopefully I'll get to flog it a bit.

Haha, yeah it works great for extraction, not so well for installation however. The hyd. valve is about worn out so it creeps down, making it a pain in the butt sometimes.
