Springs for Poor Man's Lift (3") -- Cherokee XJ

Post by rbneron »

Looking for:

(2) stock rear springs from XJ (you don't need them since you lifted your Jeep, right?)
(2) front coil spring from V8 Grand Cherokee

<OR>
3" Lift kit for 98 Cherokee XJ, since you've gone to a larger lift.

Help me help you...

ZJ's alone are only good for 1.25-1.75 lift depending on original model of your jeep....

How are you planning on getting 3" out of stock XJ leafs? I'm not familiar with any "poor man" lifts that use an extra set of XJ leafs.

Terry, Chris was saying earlier that he got a full 2" out of his ZJ coils, but I don't know how accurate his measuring was.

Yea I'm pretty sure its a full 2" I got out of the zj coils but I never really measured. To get 3" in the rear you are going to need an add a leaf because to do it with stock xj leafs is just not worth it. You will need spacers in the front coils to get 3" of lift but I think it is just cheaper to get 3" lift coils off of ebay.

your stock coils must have been trash.....were the wheels rubbing the fender wells???? the most i've ever heard of getting was 1.75". i've been on every forum and everyone still says that! my fronts were trash (175,000) on them, very weak, and it only got me about 1.5".

as for the leaves, i've recently discovered that you can use dakota main leaves 55.5" long and use the RE boomerang shackles in the rear. all you have to do is move the centerpin hole 1.5" back. it'll still be covered by the plate, you get longer springs and they are spring under so they have some killer arch built in....just miss-match some XJ, dakota, and maybe S-10 leaves to taylor your height.....

Yea for some reason my leafs and springs sagged pretty bad when i first got it at 45,000 miles and I still can't figure out why. But I know that mine stock was lower then my friends stock 95 xj that had 175,000 miles.

Shacles are a good cheap way to lift the jeep... you keep a soft leaf pack ans till get the lift you want.
