Gorilla Winch

Post by Fonger »

Has anyone had experience with these... www.gorillawinches.com

Their prices are smoking and it seems like a decent winch. Just curious because I'm on the market for an affordable winch for the CJ. I'm looking for something in the 8,000 lb. capacity range.

Looks good for the money. Of course it doesn't matter how cheap they are when they say, "Temporarily Out Of Stock". Wonder if the price will be the same when they're back in stock?

they have been around for awhile. i have not wired mine up yet, but compared to other ones on ebay this one seems stouter (to go from engage/free spool/etc). The mounting holes/nuts are the only thing I dont like, just bolts captured in a plastic housing (so they cant spin when you tighten it down).

I got the 3000lb winch with sythetic cable, shipped for 142.xx over Christmas time. the kit is incredibly complete, hardware, wires out the butthole, etc. Very impressive for what I paid.

And I went with Gorillas over the venom and other cheap winches (gorilla was cheapest, still think best choice too) because I found an atv website where they were talking about the gorillas and other cheap winches. dude used his gorilla in 4ft of mud and water....but he said he was doing more than it was capapble of and it never stopped pulling. Once he got out the next day it wouldnt work. then a month later he got back on the forum saying the gorilla guy found his post and got in touch with him and sent him a brand new one. so the warrenty seems pretty pimp. I'll get pics of mine soon and all it came with if ya want.

you might want to check out the smitty built winches. They are getting good reviews on pirate and are only 300 for an 8k or 9k. I think that is what the Samuari is getting when I get around to building a front bumper for it.

I've heard of some guys running some cheap Warn M8000's. Just curious where you guys got them at. That may be another feasible option.

Hopefully Krantz and Steinberg will chime in.

Keep your eye on Ebay and on pirate's classifieds. I have seen a couple go for pretty decent prices.

If I find one, I will send it your way.

When I got my M8000 there was a guy on pirate selling them for 450$. That was the best price I could find. I ended up getting it elsewhere for a little more because he was out. But you should be able to find them for
500$ with free shipping.

give DC a call, I got my Warn from him and like most things his price to my door was cheaper than any other price I could find. He might carry other brands too.

The 8274 is the ideal winch for me, but geez they're high, and used ones always seem to be beat to crap. I'll wait 'till I've got a grand lying around and buy one.

www.winchdepot.com was where I got mine for under $500.00 with free S&H. Not sure how much they are now though.
