Fender trimming

Anyone got any advice before I take my sawzall to the fender of my Suburban? Down where the fender/door/firewall meet...I'm fixing to cut an inch or so back and then take a dead-blow and turn up the edge that I've left.

Sound like a plan?

If all you are cutting off is an inch then you will be fine, if you arent already go on CK5 and search this topic and you will find many many pictures of how others did it. My Blazer has the bottom corners lopped off as well.

I would use a grinder and a cut off wheel. Get some tape and mask off the cut you want to make and then follow the edge.

That definitely works better. Sawzalls tend to not want to turn curves.

Another vote for grinder/ cut-off wheel. I used a sawzall on the back of my Heep, and it sucked big time. Used a grinder up front; it turned out much better.

I used a jigsaw on my fenders and it worked really well, just another option.

Sawzall is what I have up here at my house in Blacksburg. Grinder would either have to be borrowed or wait till I go 'home' for the summer.

I looked on CK5 but couldn't seem to find anything for 88-98 fender trimming. Might be because I just kept reading about the fella with the near brand new white reg cab 2500 with all that work done to it. One nice truck.

Oh I assumed you had a solid axle vintage truck, didnt know you had a 88-98. Either way its no big deal, mine have the bottom lip beat with a sledge hammer and the front bumper has the corner knocked off a bit..

I just winged it. Pulled into the driveway today and when it rubbed and I was already in a frustrated mood, I just threw the parking brake on, grabbed the sawzall and hacked off an uneven amount on each side. Doesn't rub anymore...beat back what I could and grabbed some spray paint out of the garage which turned out to be brown (my truck is black) which further added to my frustration...but hey...it doesn't rub.
