Treehugger
New plans, folks - Treehugger has been sitting for two years. I've been starting it regularly every couple months, always fires on the first couple turns. Put into storage with gas stabilizer, and a couple squirts of oil into the cylinders. Anyhow, it's time to start thinking about building up an FJ or 3rd gen 4runner... something i can haul more gear with!
It's located in Springfield Virginia, so any interested parties will need to arrange a trailer for pick up.
1991 Toyota Standard Cab P/U - 180,000 chassis miles, very little rust. Driver's side fender and door have some 'minor' scuff marks that will probably buff out. I may try and track down a new driver's door if its a deal breaker... No inspection, but was my daily driver from 1996 to 2003, and could still easily be a DD.
Asking $4000.
Engine/Drivetrain:
-DOA Racing Engines 22re RV longblock, *estimated* 140 hp, 170 lb/ft (roughly 40,000 miles):
-22r/re low block, bored .060 over
-* I believe the rotating assembly was balanced, but I'm not entirely sure*
-Ported head (intake & exhaust)
-270* RV cam
-Moly rings
-Hypereutectic pistons
-metal backed timing chain guides
-22ret high volume oil pump
-NGK plugs & wires
-K&N filter
-Toyota oil filters ONLY
-20W50 Castrol dyno oil ONLY
-Thorley Tri-Y headers
-2.25" high flow SS cat
-2.25" cat back to a Flowmaster 40 series muffler
-Stock W56:
-Could use a rebuild, pops out of 4th occasionally in sub-freezing temps
-Dual 21 spline gear driven T-cases (forward shift front reduction box, top shift rear T-case) ~108:1 crawl ratio:
-Advanced Adapters single bearing adapter
-Sky Manufacturing T-case skidplate
-Sky Manufacturing T-case parking brake
-High-Angle Drivelines rear double-cardan (CV) rear driveshaft
-homebuilt single-cardan square front shaft (2" 1/4" wall outer, 1.5" 3/16" wall inner, about 20" of slip, weighs *only* 60 lbs...)
-Double and triple drilled flanges
-3 Bobby Long SuperBlingBling shift knobs (look like minature birfields)
-Toyota 8" Front Axle:
-Pulled from a 1984 P/U (has the extra/longer gusset)
-5.29 Yukon R&P, professional installation
-ARB RD23 Air locker (compressor mounted inside engine bay)
-27 spline 4340 Longfields
-Polyperformance 4340 inner axle shafts (lifetime warranty)
-All-Pro High-Steer w/ FJ80 rod ends
-Sky Manufacturing flat pitman arm (box moved as far forward and rotated as much as possible, no binding at full compression or extension)
-Axle rebuilt as of 2006, all new felts, seals, etc., including Trail Gear's beefy "rock rings"
-Sky Manufacturing wide axle kit (NO WHEEL SPACERS!!)
-Toyota FJ vented rotors
-Remanufactured 4 piston IFS calipers
-SS braided brake lines
-8" sewer pipe cap diff armor with bitchin "Flipoff" sticker
-Toyota 8" rear IFS width axle:
-5.29 Yukon R&P, professional installation
-Lock-Rite automatic locker
-Rancho RS5012 shocks, mounted /\
-Stock rebuilt drum brakes
-LSPV disconnected
-Bumpers/armor:
-Homebrew rocksliders (2" x 2" - 1/4" wall main rails and legs welded to 1/4" plates on the frame, 2" - .120" wall DOM kickouts)
-Shaeffer's Offroad front winch bumper (mix of 1 3/4" - .120" wall HREW, and 1 1/2" - .120" wall HREW)
-Clevis mounts welded to frame/front crossmember
-Tube bed (2" - .120" wall DOM 'B' hoop, down bars and 'bedside' rails, 1 3/4" - .120" wall DOM other tubes... some box section tubing used as well).
-4" chopped off the rear of the frame, integrated 2" receiver hitch
-LED tail and reverse lights
-Set of tubedoors, made by SW tubeworks... trick latch
-Front Suspension (about 3 1/2" - 4" lift, axle moved forward 5 - 6" from stock):
-Solid axle swap (at roughly 125k miles... it's help up pretty damn well so far)
-Homebrew front hanger (all 1/4" steel and grade 8 nuts and bolts)
-hybrid 48" Toyota rear packs (6 leaf, completely cleaned up, new spring clamps, spring pads, center pins, etc.)
-Bilstein 5100 12" travel shocks
-Ford shock towers (haven't ripped them off yet...)
-All-Pro 2" lift heavy duty shackles
-Urethane bushings
-Spring perches could be drilled to move the axle another inch forward (with no steering bind), and you could probably squeeze 39.5's with a little cutting
-Rear Suspension (about 3-4" lift depending on how much junk is in the bed):
-All-Pro 3" lift springs
-All-Pro spring hangers
-Daystar 2" lift shackles
-New perches, pinion rotated up for CV rear shaft
-doubled up rubber brake lines
-Wheels and tires:
-235 75 R15 rollers
-Other:
-bright-as-shit Hella's (120 watt, i think)
-CB (don't remember what kind... it works like it's supposed to)
-semi-Ricer gigantor tach
-Toyota Corolla bucket seats
-20 lb CO2 tank setup, gauge, heavy duty hose (not that cheap yellow shit from walmart, regulator and mount
I don't think I need to go into much detail about how it performs... I can't even count how many times it's been up the washout, with no breakage (i did run out of gas on the washout once, tho). It's been up Lower2 at tellico without much hassle and will run blues and blacks (7+ rated trails). If i had a full cage, I'd probably be a little more daring...
Search the board for pics or vid... i'm a lazy focker...
Anyhow, pass along the word to anyone who may be interested but not on the board, this rig is pretty much a turnkey rig capable of quite a bit of fun, but also just tame enough to be a DD. Keep in mind i have over $11,000 invested in her, plus the price of the truck, so this price is more than fair. I'll be sad to see her go, but as Bob Dylan said, "The times, they are a-changin'".
E-mail me (clay.moulton@gmail) with any questions.

i might be interested possibly..., i start thinking more after xmas break. id have to sell the dodge, but different ideas are popping into my head like tearing the dodge up too much, too much money to do what i want with it, etc. i know this is a sweet rig that everyone around here is in love with and id want to be able to use it like it has been, but well see. ill let you know, id like to check it out in person sometime. holla
[EDIT: I could also try to get a loan somehow and keep Elroy(the dodge) as the tow rig]
