yo toyota guys gimme some help

Post by shmoken875 »

roomate has the green 99 supercharged/alcohol injected 4-runner that you may see running around town. Hes looking for 3-4 inches of lift but isn't sure who/what to go with. He was thinking of a 2.5" spacer kit with fj springs in the front and ome springs and spacers in the rear and a front diff drop. He says sas is in the future, but wants a kit for now. How does his plan sound? Any alternative suggestions for getting to 3-4"? Best mfgs for 4-runner kits? I'm trying to help him, but I'm from the jeep world not the toyota world.

save the money for the SAS... seriously, it's a buncha work and time and money that you're just gonna end up cutting off the truck.

go with dave's spacers and ome coils for the front. 3" is about the max you want to push that ifs. even that is a bit much with add. you can just keep the stock coils with a bigger spacer, but the ome coils are nice. for the rear get whatever he thinks he'd like.. ome still a good choice.

the price for just spacers won't be too expensive and i can do a couple of coil spacers in about an hour so the labor isn't extensive. coil compressor is a must with an impact gun for them not far behind. autozone rent a tool if u need some.

yea spacers or OME coils, he could go with something like donahoe adjustable coilovers if hes willing to pay 600+ but why not just save money and buy SAS parts

So did he finally get it running on the alcohol? Has he dyno'd it after the alcohol winshield washer injection? Curious to see what he is getting and how long that motor is going to last.

Nope, not running completely, but working on it next week after finals...

I am new on the boards, the roomate got me to sign up. Thanks for all the suggestions. I am currently looking for IFS options since i wont be doing SAS until much later on. I am looking at OME 892 Heavy duty springs in the rear with a 1 inch cornfed spacer, with a 2 inch spacer and OME 881 springs in the front. This should prove about 3.5" of lift. Looks like ill need a panhard bar drop as well, might fab one up myself or the sell them for about 75 bucks unless someone knows of another place to get them... let me know what you think, its not for serious offraoding, just to get me a better stance. Got a 1.25" sway bar on the way if all goes well! Should handle nice.

welcome to the board, man.

what sort of time frame are you planning on doing a sas?

Speaking from experience, i knew for about 2 years that I was going to do mine, a year of that planning and shopping and saving, another year of buying, planning and assembling all the parts. all this planning allowed me to do the swap in about 3 days with the help of some friends.

if i were to do it over again with a 3rd gen runner or a taco, i'd make sure that any parts to lift the IFS were easy to re-sell and easy to install. confed's stuff is nice for the price and with proper tools is an easy install.

The time frame for SAS will definitely be after i graduate this may sometime in the next few years. The runner is paid off and its in good condition so im sure even if i get somn new, ill keep it and continue to work on it. The longterm plan is either a 350 (trendy) or a supra 2jz twin turbo swap.

The kit i am looking at now has the part number (OME3-RUN). It is from Toytec lifts from this webpage:
http://www.toyteclifts.com/4Runner.html
The email back from them said that they would throw in the OME 882 heavy duty springs as well as the spacers and a diff drop for 299+shipping. I feel like that isnt a horrible deal, but im sure if i pieced it together, i might be able to find stuff cheaper. I will also have the fab up a panhard bar lowering bracket, but that doesnt seem very hard. Should provide 3" of lift. All of it should be easy to sell later on as the OME coils are great coils.[/url]

I have callled all the yards around here and all the ones close to home... (baltimore)... Found a set of 1" lift tundra coils from preformance products for 150. Might do that and avoid the extra spacer to give me 3 inches in the front. Does that sound right or do you think it might be too high. I heard that the tundra coils give about 2" up front.
