Paint?
Took the MJ in to Macco today and the cheapest paint job I can get is $650. I was willing to pay to save the trouble, but that's to steep for me. Anyone have some painting tips? What to get and where to get it from? I was prepared to spend around $400, less is always better. I just need it to look have way decent for a few years till I have the budget to build it.

Re: Paint?
find your local Vo-Tech high school. Usually just have to pay for parts/materials, maybe a bit more.Ctrow wrote:Took the MJ in to Macco today and the cheapest paint job I can get is $650. You can get the paint from Dupont in Fredneck, there are others just google it. Paint job is only as good as your prep work. Spraying is the fun part. Fix the bad spots. Prime em. Sand the entire thing with 600 wet. Mask it. Wipe it with wax and grease remover. Spray two coats base, 10 min apart. Two coats of clear. Recoat when it gets tacky, check on your masked off area. Don't try and pic the bugs out it will only make it worse Painting is an art form. I love it. Not hard when you figure it out. Don't use a wet sock wrapped around your head for a respirator......I started seein shit, plus I had bright orange buggers for 2 weeks. Oh cover all your shit (Ary's shit) cause over spray goes everywhere. Im sure Ary would love an extra protective coat on is 2x4

How much for the Stinson's Paint Specialties to paint it for me? .Stinson wrote:You can get the paint from Dupont in Fredneck, there are others just google it. It really is a science and a hell of a lot of tedious work. I have everything to paint a car legit. Ive painted two mustangs and it took 100x more prep and care work than the actual labor. If you care to learn something new then I say you should do it yourself, but if that doesnt seem like your thing than id get stinson to do it for you
P.S. If you take your time rattle can jobs arnt too terrible, especially since you plan on making the MJ and trail monster. You wouldnt want to put too much care into something you intend on beating up.
P.S.S. When I was restoring my Mustang I painted it primer gray (really shitty heavy coats) until I was ready to finish the job to prevent rust damage from spreading. Maybe this is something you want to consider until you have the budget and time to build the MJ???

If your going to wheel it I feel like this is a fairly logical option. IMO a primer looks kinda cool especially if your jeep is going to be a long term work in progress.97JEEPTJ wrote:I'll do a rattle can job for
My rig will be receiving many cans of flat black. Although it is starting its new life as a trail only rig so looks are not a concern of mine as they are yours.
