Need axle/ welder help

Post by hklvette »

The C8.25 rear in my XJ is having some trouble. The differential casing has rotated around the axle tubes (don't ask how it happened: I don't know), and needs to be rotated back and welded in place. Is there anyone that has the tools to do this? I for sure need somebody with very good welding skills, as mine aren't up to the task yet.

Thanks,
Henry

I've got an empty housing sitting at the shop if you need one.

Stock from an '01. You'd have to install your diff and stuff 'cause it's literally just the housing, but you're welcome to it for $50.

It would be 2 weeks before I can have it here though.(after spring break)

It doesn't need to be rotated and welded. Its life is over and it needs to be replaced. Since XJ axles are junk, they are also cheap. Just replace the housing and/or entire axle and you'll be way ahead than if you tried your current plan.

Do you know if that axle has been re-geared ever? If it hasn't been regeared, how much do you want for it?

Thanks Benny. If hssss' axle is what i think it is, i'm taking it and doing the swap.

I don't think it had ever been touched. The car looks like it had been treated well till it was rolled. There might be other parts worthwhile as well. I'd like $150.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want a twisted axle? Also, I didn't plan on swapping immediately, but if you want to buy my C8.25 this weekend, we can work out a time to do the swap.

Probably all that grip with those tire chains. know anyone that makes them for 38.5x14.50 SXs? I want to break some more ring gears.

Probably, they make them big enough to fit on tractor tires. Nell Jean in Beckley, WV sells the ones i bought, so you might call them first. Not too cheap, but they last if you keep them from rusting.

Edit: People here *cough*Pete*cough* knock on me having chains, but i don't know of anyone else that has twisted and axle casing...do you?
