Jeep driveshaft questions

Post by Steinberg »

I was looking at Cody's TJ front shaft and it looks to have a very similar CV as my ranger shaft, and it is very nearly the right length that I'd need with the doubler in. Do you guys know what size u-joint and CV these shafts have? And Cody, I'm gonna want to get a length measurement off your's. I looked up the weld-to-weld length, but that's dependant on whether the slipyokes are the same or not.

Don't quote me here, but I'm pretty sure that they are 1310 series joints.

U-joints are 1310, if it is a three speed automatic it should be 38.5" yoke to yoke, manual should be 40", newer 4 speeds should be even longer, but I don't know what they are. These measurements should be mid range length while in use, I believe the slip is 3 or 4". I have one out of an auto I could have measured, but it's already packed up to ship out to someone on ebay. My stock one is in pieces right now, but a new one should be here soon if you still need measurements by then.

Just found this on the internet, can not guarantee reliability. I would suggest one from a manual, they are beefier and heavier, as shown below, the diameter is larger, not sure what the wall thickness is on either, but I can confirm that the diameters and lengths seem about right...

4.0L 5spd MT 231 Transfer Case. Ujoint CV/1310. Diameter 2.50". 40.0" Ctr-Ctr. 25 5/8" Weld to Weld

2.5L & 4.0L AT, 231 Transfer Case. Ujoint Cv/1310. Diameter 1.75". 38.25 Ctr-Ctr. 24.5" Weld to Weld.

good info. the W-W lengths there correspond to what I found on car-part.com. I will have to measure tomorrow and compare the overall length. another lead I have is a fullsize ford truck front shaft, but need to confirm if they have the same joints or not. of course, this will all be moot if I cannot find a deal in the club or at a yard around here. if I was back in jersey at the u-pull I could have the fullsize ford shafts all day long for pennies on the dollar to what these "salvage yards" want.
