Sinking Creek Trail

Is the sinking creek trail closed off? I was looking around in my gazeteer and on google maps and saw the one that runs along the mountain, but have never heard any mention of it. What's the deal?

which trail exactly are you talking about? I've never heard of any trail by that name.

There's a trail that runs along the ridge of sinking creek mountain, which I was assuming the club was named after...

the ridge of sinking creek mountain is pretty long. where it crosses 460 there's nothing but gravel fire roads as far as i know. the primary trail we run is on the next ridge over- brush mountain, and starts at 460. if you're looking much further northeast then it might be Potts trail, but I'm not sure if that's on sinking creek mtn or another.

It looks like the trail you're talking about starts off of Seven Oaks Road off Route 42 in Newport and leads about 1.5 miles to a power line clearing ontop of Sinking Creek Mtn. I don't know off anyone who has been on this trail.

The Appalachian Trail is ontop of Sinking Creek Mtn a little further NE on the Craig Co/Montgomery Co border. The Feds will get you if you drive on it if the granola eating hikers don't destroy you first.

That's the one I was thinking of. I figured that it had some signifigance with the name of the club and what not, but apparently was wrong.

It has been about 3 years or so since I have been on that trail. Last time I was up there the gate was closed, but I haven't checked recently. It was a fairly decent trail, mostly just a fire road, not too rough. The club was named for the sinking creek itself, not after the trail. I'll have to drive out there sometime and see if it's opened up again.
