Shameless copy of every other design out there, but I like it, it's simple and effective. Ary and I have been throwing another design back and forth as well, will update on it when we have a plan.

What is the plan for securing? I assume those slots are sized for hose clamps? What are the pin hole and pivot hole diameters? How do spring pins work? Can you put one in there?

Mounting could be clamped, I plan to weld to the tube. You could also extend the base up an inch on top and bottom to allow it to be bolted. The bottle will be hose clamped the the bracket with a single plate. The double plate is the chassis side.

pin diameters are .375, allowing the use of a spring pin from mcmaster. They are like 9 bucks, depending on how Ary/people wanted to do it we could have him get them all and assemble of he could just provide the plates and you source the pin, bolt, clamps, and weld

Also available, in lieu of spring pins welded to the mount are standard pull pins

one like the LII one could be had in 5/16 or 3/8



or a standard eye one with a lanyard in stainless steel like some of the others use

either of those would be like 6 some bucks

Id go with either a pull pin or spring pin. I like the look of a bigger more purposeful handle over a standard pin.

Me personally I would be happy with just the 3 main pieces. The mounting plates and pins and so forth are easily sourced/made. Its just the hassle of drilling the holes and cutting the slot so it fits nicely that becomes a pain.

I could be interested in one or two mounts depending on costs.

How about a low profile version of what Will drew. Have the Tube that's being mounted two sandwiched between the two plates attached to the extinguisher. You could just drill/sleeve the tube for the pin and run a dowel through tube for the hook. Make a 1.5 and 1.75 size.

I think maybe Matt is talking about something like this... to save some room so the fire extinguishers dont protrude so far off the tube. I could be completely wrong though just a guess

With that design, having the mount integrated into the tube, I see two issues.

The first being that you are creating stress risers in the structural tube by drilling holes in it and compromising the original intent of the tube, to be a cage truss member. I don't know how much this would actually occur without doing the math, but just a thought.

Second, with having the flat mount being 1.75" wide (1.5" tube dia + .120 on each side) and 2" wide (1.75" tube dia + .120 on each side) the extinguisher body won't be as secure on the mount when its hose clamped as it would be with the 2 piece design. Again, I don't know how much without trying it out and having an extinguisher in hand, just my .02 cents.

ahh i see. I don't see why that wouldn't work, I could redesign the brackets with enough depth for it. I personally would prefer the first design I think, but It wouldn't be hard to do both.

id be interested in one too, but is something simple like a velcro strap being overlooked?

The hook and loop straps are simple but not nearly as effective as a quick release hard-mounted system in both relase time and retention.
