Yeah, thats what I got to use, still took Leach, Whittaker, and myself 8 hours to remove all the IFS crap, but did a clean job.yotacowboy wrote:an air hammer/chisel works wonders, too.MILLER wrote:For cutting off the IFS brackets, cut most of the way through toyotas shitty welds with an angle grinder and chisle the bracket off or bend it back and forth till it breaks. Leaves a lot less to grind. You will have to cut the bracket apart so that you are breaking one weld bead off at a time.

Well I got started on the back half.
New gas tank
New fuel pickup
New Exhaust
Patch frame
Weld on hangers
Box in rear of frame
Mount 63" chevies
So far I got the exhaust done. New Cat I had laying around and Thrush turbo Muffler $24.95, nice and cheap.
I tucked it all up as far as I could and patched my shitty frame. Bad pic...
New gas tank not in yet but shes nice for 20 bucks.....thanks Josh!!
Still need to locate some metal for hangers and such and finish cleaning up the back half.

Worked on it some last night. I couldnt find any 3.5x3.5 box, no one seemed to want to return my phone calls or order any for me so I took some 3inch flat bar and cut it up and welded it together and made this for my front hanger.
In the rear I cut off the stock shackle mount boxed it up with some flat bar and moved it back as far as I could. My frame has been chopped off in the back from when I had a 12inch bobbed bed. I think this will be close to my shackle angle. The truck has wieght on that spring. I pulled the over load and went with a 5.5inch eye to eye shackle to try and keep this thing as low as possible for now since I do plan on driving it untill I finish collecting parts for the front.
I need to get this thing the hell out of the garage. I missed the snow wheeling trip and my poor powerstroke is sleeping outside, not to mention its covered in salt!

Stinson, here's an idea for you since your frame is so short. Weld in a solid crossmember to bridge the two frame rails together at the very rear, and then weld your shackle hanger to the face of the crossmember. That should lower you at least an inch or so.
Check my build thread on PBB for pics of what I'm talking about, I kinda did the same thing on mine.

been real slow getting any SAS parts or work done. But I did start working on some half doors cause they will make my truck more capable than SAS will .
One is just about done, I just want to diamond plate the back side. I wasnt going to make them cut so far down, but since one of the donor doors was pretty twisted, I tried to cut most of the bad metal out.
Pretty simple door handle. Just push down.

Hey man some of those parts look strangley familiar....wonder why? Glad to see you managed to salvage at least one of those doors....did you ever get that front axle rebuilt, or figure out what the hell was up with that 3rd member? Hope the second one was in much better shape.
Any looks good so far my heap is coming along nicely....I expect to be done by the next century anyway
Anyway just checking in to see how it was going. Carry on.

amazingly both carrier bearings were shot, but I picked up another 87 runner (for parts) thats complete so I have an extra 3rd. So I will be able to regear both of your "bad" thirds and pop them in without any down time. I havent rebuilt the axle yet, but I am going to order some parts here soon. Cya Stinson

picked up a set of 37inch mtr's. Mounted them by hand with some motorcycle tire irons. That was fun.
And started building my front packs. Two sets of rears combined with a add a leaf on the bottom. Packs are from an 86 and 85. With new poly bushings. 5 leafs plus add aleaf.
PLan on cutting the IFS off in the next few weeks. Fun Fun
