The springs off of a s-10 are they the leaf or coil spring and does it matter if it is off of a 2wd.

pretty much all 2wd trucks have different springs than their 4x4s counterparts, and it would depend on what springs your talking about, S-10s have leafs in the rear and coil springs up front

ya, just like your XJ, you have coil springs with a four link, and leaf springs in the rear

Well thne i guess that takes out my free parts idea lol my cousin built a s-10 for drag racing and took all the springs out and replaced them but if it needs to be 4x4 then time to go to the junk yard.

Take the springs and try them. The difference is in the spring rate and possibly the diameter of the spring (outside to outside). You might gain lift, you might loose it, or it might stay the same and ride softer/harder.
And peter, you do not have a 4 link nor does his cherokee.

i'm pretty sure both the cherocar and the dodge have "parallel" 3-link's with a panhard link or trac-bar to control side-to-side axle movement and minimize bump-steer (not to be confused with a traction bar to control axle wrap).

well damn, my dodge had upper and lower control arms on both sides, that isnt a 4-link? and the cherokees are the same thing i thought?

technically, that'd be a 5 link... the track bar is a suspension link. most people call it a 4 link+panhard or 4link+track bar tho.
