I'm lookin for advice/insight on a jeep build my buddy from home in undertaking. He's got a 290 out of a CJ in his 89 Wrangler with the CJ tranny and t case
T-150 + Dana 20 + 3.07s = horrible gearing
He's on a tight budget but looking at switching to a T-18 and maybe 3.?? gears in the t-case and eventually regearing the diffs.
Let's hear it, thanks

The T-18 is probably the best way to do that. Tell your buddy to call up Advance Adapters first to get an idea of what T-18 he needs to get. As far as the transfer case goes he'll have to buy an adapter from the T-18 to the Dana 20. This might be a good opportunity to switch to a Dana 300 since he is going to be buying a transfer case adapter anyways. The plus to a Dana 300 is there's a lot more aftermarket stuff out there for them and the low-gear kit for them is lower (Dana 20-3.15:1 , Dana 300-4:1). Just something to think about.

Jeep T-18s came with the D20 transfer case so no adapter is needed.

I was trying to talk him in to a t-18a which is the Ford one with the granny low. Then there's supposed to be a rare scout dana-300 that bolts up. Or I've also read that you can switch the gears out of certian bronco Dana-20s to get lower gears...
Anyone heard anything about that?

not much to add, but the scout D300 is definitely gonna be hard to find
are the t-18's compatible with any of the AW series stuff?
