That's the sound I imagine it made. It's not as bad as I first suspected. One of the ring gear bolts came out, not the bearing cap bolt as I originally feared. Notice the nice hex shape of the dents in the cover. It punched all the way through.

Look on the bright side... if you hadn't locked yourself out of the building you wouldn't have been wandering around your truck, aimlessly cursing, and noticed the pile of fluid before you drove it back to your apt and actually did some damage.

well I just ordered one for cheap off eGay before your post. I found enough good reviews on them so for $65 shipped I went with it. my gut tells me it will keep my gear oil cooler than a flat 3/8" plate cover will.
