over heated jeep

ok the PLASTIC radiator blow to hell and i had to drive it off the trail to get it where i could tow it home. it got really hot!! this was do to my gague not working! what all did it mess up? im thanking head gasket it has oil in the antifreeze its a 02 wrangler.

Oil in the antifreeze is not a good thing at all. It could be a head gasket (if your lucky) or a cracked block.

the radiators work fine for about 100k ... then they leak like a sieve from the crimp.


flush the coolant, refill it, and compression test it.

when the numbers suck, pull the headgasket and check it visually. if that is ok, tow your shit to a shop and have the block checked.

thats all i know to do besides going straight to the shop ....

From what I've read on the 4.0L engine, the late 99/00+ engines have a pretty sorry head that is prone to cracking/warping issues. I'd say buying a motor used from Agee's or Bill's will be cheaper in the long run. Probably put a new head on yours, but an overheated engine will suffer for the rest of its life, regardless of what top end work you do.
