On this same note, can a Cherokar even haul class 3 weight? I've never known it to be a towing vehicle except for popup campers and the like.

I started to say this last night. The Cherokee dosn't have vast reserves of either hp or brakes so I wouldn't think you would want to hook up anything heavier than a class 2 would allow or even if you couild get up to speed you might find it a trick to slow it down.

My XJ stops fine. My brakes will lock up the 31's if I stand on them and my brother locked it up on the interstate one day following me. I'm not looking to pull large trailers, just some 10 and 12 foot jobs we have around the house. I'm mainly interested in it for use as a tow point.

Can a unitbody handle that kinda stress?
Ya might bust out a window or two with all the weight pushing you around

XJ will tow just fine. If you're towing that much weight the trailer should have brakes anyway.

The XJ has as much HP/TQ as my land cruiser and the cruiser weighs about 2500lbs more. Running 31s and under, I think the XJ's brakes are more than adequate. Just don't ride them in the twisties for 3 hours with 35s, you will smoke your brakes and have to downshift and use the e-brake to avoid hitting a lot of trees
