Swapping a 700R4 in behind the small bolck 350 with an NP203 doubler to the stock toyota case. I'll try and chase down some picture of the motor swap as well
Got the doubler kit on the way from:
Jerry Nichols
Colorado Offroad Express
210 haversham Dr.
Colorado Springs, CO 80906
Great guy to talk to I called at 8AM here in VA forgetting the time change and he not only answered the phone but helped get that thing ordered before he'd finished his first cup of coffee.
Got the doubler and adapter from someone on pirate for $100 after shipping.
We got the tranny pulled shade tree style at 20*F in the wind with 2x4s, a come along and a few jacks...
The Garage
Uh.. Clever tranny pull...
Here's the NP203 case
Is this all I need from the case? Seems to me like there outta be something in that wide open space....

Got it all torn down tonight. When we first turned the tranny over to get to the bottom the fluid POURED out the dip stick hole and ran across the table. We managed to get a towel under it untill we could get a few milk jugs there to catch the drip. No pictures of that cause if my roommate ever found out...
Here's a few pictures of the project... going real well this far. I did pick up the haynes manual.
Notice the can of air freshner to cover the smell of burnt tranny fluid
Can you find the check balls in this picture?
The shop

More progress. I got the auto rebuilt and the NP203 rebuilt last week and came home this weekend to take apart the split case and get it all put together. Here's some more pictures, not a whole lot of tech stuff but the adapter is really simple.
Here's the NP203 -> adapter plate -> then the front section of the split case
Here's the adapter plate before I put the split case on
NP203 ->adapter plate -> split case... This part is going really smooth as well. It's amazing how much better things seem to go when you remove all time constraints
Two strange things going on:
1. I assume this is an oil slinger? anyway it was damaged where it was close to the gear... I looked like it was bent in too close to the teeth. Anyway I bent it back away and left it alone. No damage on any of the teeth and the bearings and seals are not KOYO so I assume this has been rebuilt.
The other trouble was the bearing that sits on the adapter plate (see the first picture) had a snap ring with it. With the snap ring installed, the split case wouldn't fit up tight because the goove in the case was too small.
I just remove the snap ring and assembled it. I can't figure out why the snap ring needed to be in there. On one side of the bearing it runs against a flange on the shaft and the other side rides against the bushing which rides against the gear et et et to the nut on the end of the shaft in the t-case (the 36mm nut I had trouble getting off...)
More to come. I hope to get the tranny installed in measure for driveshafts and shifters tomarrow. Then weld up the inner frame rails and fab up the cross member.

yeah, turn those blocks so that all the webbing runs vertically then put a couple boards over the tops, unless you want to find your rig sitting on top of a pile of busted concrete.
i wouldn't climb underneath that thing until the blocks are loaded properly, either. seriously.

Got home last night and started this morning. Not much picture worthy but I'll sneak in a few anyway. Ryan came by and gave me a hand. We got the tranny out, sealed up, torque converter in, and all assembled again. Highsteer is on expect for the pitman arm and I'm workin on remaking the crossmember. Bling Hurst shifter mocked up.
I'm off all week so I hope to be driving it by the weekend!
You might be a redneck if.....

Sweet man!
Glad to see some progress.
Leach and I made some progress today as well. We didn't get here until 8:00pm, but the front spring perches are done, the floorboard is cut and prepped for patchwork, and the headliner and remainder of the interior was removed in anticipation of the cage install. Not bad for 5 hours of work I don't think.
Keep it up, hopefully you'll be driving before me!
