My Junk

Post by shmoken875 »

Just realized that I never put anything in here; well for anyone that's concerned [no one] here's my junk:
Image
1998 XJ that I bought in mid 2003 with 99k on her. Now have 145k and for the most part is still my DD

the typical 4.0/AW-4/NP231 drive train

80s Waggy LP44 front with mostly RE/(some mine) brackets 4.56s Lock-Rite, Alloy USA "Chromo" shafts, Yukon super joints, Ruff Stuff 3/8" diff cover.

Rear is just your run of the mill 29 spline 8.25 (beat to fuck) with 4.56s and a Powertrax No-Slip

It sports a few skids and braces here and there, a uni-body crack or two, a hand full of dents, and a roll cage that's 3/4 done......and has been for over a year :loser:

Working on: Getting my 9" rebuilt and regeared and under my jeep (have everything but the brakes), getting my high steer on and together (have the arms and one knuckle)

"Working" on: Finishing the cage, sleaving the "framerails", designing a long arm set up similar to Clayton's

Just noticed

Post by Andrew »

Looks like a fun Jeep. How is the 8.25 as far as axles go? You've had good luck with it??

I noticed that you packed you bearings by hand in the build up thread.

I've discovered that you can take a grease needle and inject the grease directly into the bearings. Just work your way around the bearing, injecting between the rollers. Really easy, and virtually no mess. It also works great for repacking old bearings because it pushes the old grease out.

Well 8.25" rg verses the 44's 8.5", 29 spline vs 44's 30 spline, I think the axle shafts are 1.2" dia vs the 44's 1.3" dia, but its also a c-clip axle. Good enough from the factory but a 44, 8.8 (31 spline not 28) or 9" would be better.

I like the needle idea solely for the mention of pushing the old grease out, but I typically just use latex gloves or none at all.
