Chevy 1500 4x4 lift

Good buddy of mine has a 2002 chevy 1500, he said hey I got a lift kit for it can you put it on? So I said sure. Its a pro comp 6" kit. He then sent me a PDF with directions that is like 100 pages that I don't have time to read.
What special tools do I need? How do I take the tension off of the torsion bars?
The rest should be pretty easy im thinking. Any one done this before. Can I get it done in a weekend? Thanks

From what I have found, there is a special tool that is recommended to be used to unload the tension in the torsion bars. It is similar to a C-clamp. Apparently GM sells them, so other auto parts stores probably do.

That it is. But it is the safest easiest way to do it.

well im sure I could come up with something, but since I will only have 1.5 days to get this done, maybe I should have him get the tool.

I used a large 2 jaw puller for mine. Worked just fine, but you need to take your time and make sure it is safe. You are welcome to borrow it if you like.

You can take the tension off with a C-clamp if you are careful.
Other than that there aren't any special tools you will need.
Not sure if the pro comp does or not, but the superlift and fabtech lifts i have installed in the past required you to notch the front crossmember to lower the diff, so you will need a torch or plasma or grinding wheel.
The rest is pretty straight forward. Just make sure he gets the truck aligned after you are done.
If you have any specific questions let me know. I installed a handfull of IFS lifts on that body style chevy when I worked at a 4x4 shop in the outer banks one summer.
