Does anyone have a good writeup on replacing a front drivers side wheel bearing on a D30? How tough? Any special tools? Thanks.

The hardest part is dropping $100+ on each bearing, unless the old ones are rusted in there. When I took mine out I used an old socket extension between the rear bolt head and the inner c and then turned the wheel.

Stu has great write ups for most things TJ related. There isn't much to it since it is a unit bearing and the whole unit is held on with only three bolts. It should be more work getting to the bearing than replacing the bearing. If any problems come up, just post up. I have done a few on D30's and just had the ones on my Ram off which was much more of a PITA.

Thanks for the link. just what I was looking for. Ive used stu a ton of times back in the day and totally forgot about his site.
Install seems simple. ANyone had a complete bearing failure before? I have to head home to MD Friday night 5 hour trip. Working double for the rest of the week so i cant get to it until Monday Tuesday. My torque only goes to 150ft lbs too.

Pretty much the only time you'll get a 30 complete unit bearing failure is when they are used without a stub-shaft. In fact at least one person has died from not using a stub shaft. Just use your 150, and take it another 1/8 turn or so with a breaker bar. It really shouldn't take you more than 90 min from park to dropping the jack to do one bearing. Whereabouts in md are you from?

Pretty dumb question but will my D30 have a stub shaft or non? Im planning on doing it after work tomorrow, already picked up the bearing. Thanks for the 36mm but I have one already. Annapolis, MD.

Just finished. It took my friend and I an hour and 45 minutes taking our time. Only hitch was removing the axle shaft nut. It came right off in two seconds, but I boucned my head off the fender flare when it released. No give just 175ft lbs. tight one second to finger loose the other. Luckily noone saw.
Everything torqued to spec and tested. So far so good. Thanks for the help guys.
