Want to cheaply (ie I'm probably not going to a roller setup) put a cam in my Suburban before the summer. Looking for some more umph in the towing department as well as an improvement on the anemic performance experienced when driving on the beach. My friend always jokes that when we put my truck on the beach it's like we're intentionally beaching a whale...and yet we do it every summer, day after day when the wind is up to much to get the boat out of the inlet.

350TBI, currently has no cat, flowmaster, stock manifolds, K&N filter.

Not looking to add too much to that equation (ie I don't want a cam that would require porting the heads, and adding headers and a chip to take advantage of it...)

Thoughts on a grind/brand/kit/place to buy it?

Save the money for a 5.3/6.0. More power from either then you coulod ever think about from TBI and not as expensive or difficult as you think.

With that said, any of the major brands (Edelbrock, Crane, Comp Cams) will work for you. Give them each a call and see what they recommend.

My uncle (engine builder) said "buy a crate motor...zero miles on it and it'll be pumping out more than you could ever afford to get out of that TBI"

I just want that extra little bit for $250 until the truck completely poops the bed...but maybe I should just hold out and swap motors.

I hadn't really thought about calling the manufacturers.

Motor swaps only worry me as far as engine management goes...getting things to bolt up is seldom overly complicated...getting it all to fire off and move usually provides more trouble when computers are involved (in my limited experience putting motors in things they don't belong in.)
