Not sure what happened....

I got home from Big Dogs, pulled the winch off the truck to see what the problem was with the freespool, pulled the radiator to clean the mud out, and parts just kept falling off.
The underside of the truck gained some more damage as usual. The other fender came detached at the bottom of the door. It's getting to the point where I'm either going to have to re-work my driving style, or re-work the armor. Take a guess which will happen.

so you start working on it after big dogs......
PS it was cool that you had a tensioner pulley. When I saw that I thought, oh shit no way he has one of those. Nice job having what u needed

Of course I'm working on it after big dogs. I'm not foolish as the rest of you trying to make a bunch of changes right before an event.
The rear bumper and bed fell off today. The lower bolts and nuts on the rear shocks are so mashed up that they may as well be welded together, so they'll get torched off with the rest of those low hanging shock brackets. One of the rear shocks finally peed itself after having the body mashed into rocks for way too long.
I am contemplating making the truck shorter, but I am still rather attached to the 6ft bed, so I will probably just concentrate on lifting the drivetrain and getting some kind of flat-belly underneath.
Wheeling with the doors off has left me with the desire for seats with more lateral support, so that may happen at the same time as I cut a hole in the floor to lift up the drivetrain.
Not sure what's going to happen in the next couple months!!!

What did you find out about the winch?

I still haven't cracked it open. I have removed more parts from the truck though.

I am kinda stuck on the drivetrain lift. I need probably 3" to get the flat belly I'm after, but that's going to take some serious trimming of the cab floor. And of course it's in a spot where there's a gusset for the cab floor, and also where the seat bolts up. I might run out of room in the trans tunnel too. I can clock the rear case, I just need to add another set of holes to the adapter plate. I don't think clocking will gain me much though. At this point I wonder if I ought to accept at least 1" of body lift. The body lift would also help me shoe-horn the York compressor under the hood.
Thoughts?

I can't see a 1" body lift hurting anything. It's not like you're really raising the COG that much with just a 1". Raising the drive line will have more of an affect on it than the body. I'd go for it.

I won't actually be raising the whole driveline, just the transmission mount. I expect that the engine mounts will be okay with the slightly different angle.

You gonna make a Tube bed or flat bed?

will start as a flat bed, 6'x5', with some kind of sides or rails. I am probably going to end up with a cage when this is all said and done.
transfer cases hit the ground today.... tranny and motor next, at which point I'll re-work the front crossmember and buy myself some more time to think about clearancing for the t-cases.

motor is out (thanks James- your hoist is working just fine). no pictures of the exploded ranger strewn about the yard because my camera is missing.
I believe I have found the space to fit the York compressor under the hood, if I move the battery (I was pondering doing dual batteries under the bed anyway). Plus, in this location, there would still be room for the stock AC compressor, so I could bring the AC back to life if I wanted to... even though I think I threw away some of the plumbing.
