Wanted: Late model Chevy 6.0 and a service/utility body

Looking for a late model 6.0 truck engine with trans if possible. I keep hearing of people scoring engine/trans w/ harness/accessories for under $1k, so that's where I'd like to be.

Also looking for a SRW service/utility body, preferably for a compact pickup. Wanna turn it into an offroad capable camping trailer. If I can find the perfect one(compact pickup, aluminum body) I'm willing to spend up to $500. Less if it's a big one or steel. Dually/longer than 8' is out of the question.

Lemme know if you see anything!

May I inquire about the destination of said 6.0L?

I haven't looked in a while, but I would be very surprised if you could find a 6 liter for under 1g. I have seen PLENTY of 5.3's for under 1g complete and have heard of all aluminum 5.3's for about 1g (which for a light weight rig that is what I would go for, plenty of HP/Torque for rock crawling/trail rides/street).

+1 for request of destination.

Destination is the 80-series.

Frankie's 3.5" lift should be here this week.

35's are already in my posession.

Tube is sitting ready to be molded into bumpers/sliders.

James, I have seen quite a few 5.3s sub-1k as well. And there are a few L33's(alum 5.3s) on car-part.com for 8-1200 which isn't too bad. But when I called they wanted another $3-400 for all the accessories/computer/harness and then another $800 for the trans. So that quickly gets out of hand.

I've been hounding Ebay constantly, hoping to turn up a score, but figured I'd put out my feelers elsewhere as well.

Found this on Ebay last night. I am thinking about buying it but if you are interested go ahead. It is basically the same as an L33. Shows harness attached, but no accessories.

What kind of transfer case do you plan on running in this thing? FJ-60?

Link? I'm thinking I should hold out for a 6.0. It's the same amount of work, and I'll be kicking myself later if the 5.3 is not 'enough'.

Wilfong, I'm thinking about trying to do an LT230 land rover case. It's got the offset rear output that I need, lower low range, reduction in high range, and an output mounted e-brake. It's also supposedly equal to an atlas in strength. The FJ60 case is the standby if the LR case doesn't workout.

LOL sorry about that. I was doing something else and swore I pasted the link for you:

I think you will be more then happy with the 5.3+programming. I assume you will use a 4L60E with the Rover case? For what you are looking for I think it will have more then enough power. I have an 07 Tahoe (weighing high 5000's near 6000 lbs.)with a 315HP 5.3 (I think? maybe 320) and around town and on the highway it does really well and even with me driving it gets consistent 18-18.5 MPG (on highway at 70-73 MPH). It has plenty of power when needed even with all of the "torque management" GM programs in. I think with a better program it would be really sweet. It could use a little more power for towing, but I blame that on most of the power being higher in the power band. The new 6 speed auto should fix that.

I also drive a 2009 ECSB 2500HD with 6.0/6L90E (6 speed auto) with a ladder rack and tools etc. and it isn't exactly a rocket. It is nice, but not what I expected for power. gas mileage sucks too (11.5-12 mixed driving). Again, custom tune would wake it up I am sure. Anyway, 5.3's are cheap, 6.0's are getting there. Here is another cheap source down this way. I sent him a question to see of they are 5.3 or 4.8 (he has 3 auctions), and if any have harnesses and his response:
5.3 and a couple have harness
. Here is the link for one of the auctions:

Anyway, good luck with the search and keep us updated.

Aww hell...Friggin Rover parts. Why ruin a perfectly good 'Yota with parts of a limey wagon. Where in the world will you find that adapter? 4l60e to a rover case? Crap.

In all seriousness though. Keep us in the loop with this man. Good luck...

James, thanks for your input. I'm hoping to open up some HP/TQ by retuning with HPTuners. I'll also probably be doing headers, which should help some. I guess what it boils down to is, if it's a price difference of $2-300, is it worth it? I'm still torn.

Wilfong, :flipoff2:

Actually a 700R4/4L60=>LT230 adapter exists, it's just $1100 :eek:

My uncle's buddy is getting his CNC bridgeport online, and my uncle is working on building a foundry for casting aluminum parts. So between the two I'm hoping to be able to make my own.

We'll see. I just found a utility bed, so it looks like that project may get underway before the engine swap, which is fine since it will give me more time for research.

Ary, I don't know if you've run across these guys in your searches, but they look like they build pretty sweet Cruisers. Apparently, they're directly affiliated with the Icon company that builds those sick 40-series Cruisers.

Yeah, they build really sweet stuff, but they're really proud of them. lol

I found a yard a couple blocks from my job that will sell me a complete 6.0 drivetrain w/ tranny, PCM, harnesses, accessories, etc for $2k.

I think it's a fair deal. Now I just gotta figure out if I want a 2wd or 4wd tranny.

Anyone have access to a 4wd and 2wd 4l80e that they could throw a tape on and take a pic or two?

Measurement from front of bellhousing to end of tailhousing(not including output shaft).

I'm going to be doing a quasi-divorce mounted t-case and am trying to figure out if it will be easier with a 2wd or 4wd trans. Any chance you could snap a pic of the tailhousing area while you're at it?

Thanks!
