its got a 350 wich is baller and a 5 spd that you dont see them in alot, however my friends dad is trying to sell his 96 (i think) 2500 with a 454 its an automatic, extended cab, pretty decent shape, i think it has just a little over 100,000 on it i can get more info id you'd want, it would outpull that 350 any day of the week

Why do you guys think IFS sucks so bad? I'll admit for offroading it's not a good system, but why SAS a truck you're just going to be driving? IFS wears tires better, handles better, rides better, and is more stable on slick roads. If you're just going to be driving it and hauling a little with it then why lift it? All you are doing is putting stress on the driveline. Put a good set of tires on it, maybe one size up from stock and drive the thing.

Just make sure it is a 2500HD not a 2500LD. The light duty will basically be a half ton truck with heavier springs, and would have the light duty 5 speed (not NV4500).

If it is a 2500HD, my list of positives would be strong drivetrain, dependable easy-to-work-on TBI, decent low end torque, it would cost you about 200 bcks down on the street corner for a replacement engine, and IMO the first year for the better interior design for the body style.

My negatives- only 210 HP (new) TBI 350, reg cab, a lot of miles if trans is original, and somewhat shitty brakes.

I would look out for a Extended cab of you are going to DD it, and a 96-up with Vortec, 250HP/decent torque but they do have a few issues that really aren't hard to fix. Small lift is pretty much crank torsion bars/replace the keys for 1-2" and should fit 33's with the right wheels. 4" lift is a full kit in the 1G range for cost and can fit 35's. I still love my truck even though it does have some wear on it now (and a broken gov loc in the rear lol). If you would like to drive it to see if you like the body style with a lift, you need to help me fix the rear. I tow the Blazer with my smallish truck camper and it handles just fine. I am hoping to improve braking with a 11.5" disk brake rear out of a newer HD.

+1. Some people are so closed minded when it comes to DD-ing IFS trucks/tow rigs.

pretty sure LD would be 6 lug and HD 8 lug

HD 2500's will have the full float rear axle. I think some of the LD trucks even had 6 lug wheels. The HD stuff will all have 8 lug and the full float hubs on the rear axle.

I don't know what IFS you guys are driving, but mine blows in terms of maintenance. 80k highway miles and I've done unit bearings and am due for a complete steering overhaul(TREs, idler, etc)

I miss my solid axle maintenance regime with the 80. Beat on it relentlessly and never replace anything :flipoff2:
