Vacuum Disconnect D30

Post by CJonLP »

So a guy up here at work bought an old model YJ with a disconnect D30.

In the cab of the Jeep there is a controller with a button on the front and a twist dial, this controller has a cable that runs through the firewall and routes down to the disconnect.

He has asked me what this might be and I have 0 experience with D30s especially vac. dis. versions.

I suggested to him that the previous owner had installed this to control the
disconnect and that maybe, just maybe, there was some type of traction adding device in the diff and that this component will allow you to release the passenger side axle.

I wanted to let him know what the correct answer was and thought you all would know. I tried to upload pics, but it didn't work out.

Thanks

It's probably just a manual way to engage the front axle so that it does not use vaccum anymore but Idk much about those axle either. Will should know a little more on the subject but he is probably driving to Harlan right now.

Sounds like a disconnect operator. Neat thing about those is with an open front diff, they give you 2wd Low. Trow can vouch for the strength of a two piece front shaft D30. :thumby:

I have a collection of them...the inner shaft likes to snap off right at the diff. Although the cheap 2low is nice, it's just another thing to go wrong. Yank it out, replace the inner axle seal, and throw in a one piece shaft.

Hi)
Is it possible to just pull out the 2 piece axle and put in a 1 piece? I'm having trouble finding a write up on the matter. I've got the d30 all disassembled and ready for new axles, I just want to know which way to go next
