Bump time to get this thread rollin.

new motor torn down

tons of accessories

Pretty much to catch everyone up Matt threw a rod in his heep and we picked up a used motor on sunday with low miles as we were told at only 130K. As of today we have gotten about half of the accessories pulled off his old motor so Im guessing by next week we should be driving his jeep .

Ill let Matt fill in this with more stuff cause he did get a new set of axles and has halfway swapped them in... Moore Pics to come tomorrow in the day light.

How are you doing the suspension?

What tire size?

Get motivated!

Damn stables very nice, Matt should pay you. Charles as far as suspension I know that Matt V picked up a nice hp44/9" combo out of an xj. He has already bolted in the fron 44 as it was a direct bolt in. As for the rear he has his hands full as he needs all new mounts for the axle. Im not sure what his plan is yet, Im sure its to get his new motor in before anything

HEY NOW! I did more that half the work to get the old engine ready to pull, completely tore down the old engine, pulled the head and some other stuff off the new block, and got everything cleaned up and ready to putt back together as soon as we have seals/gaskets... :flipoff2:

I told Stables I'd help with the new engine, but he was rearin to go and had the new engine tore down by the time I got back from class one day

All that being said, I SOOPER DOOPER appreciate EVERYTHING Stables has done to help with finding and swapping the engine as well as all his engine knowledge!!!  :thumby: :sheila: I'll definitely owe you a beer and a buncha wrenchin hours when this things threw.

...cause I used to bout not know a head from a header and now bout the only thing I aint taken apart on my Jeep is the tranny

And let's see... Suspension? I"m thinkin 4 link in the rear? And maybe radius arms in the front eventually, but I haven't had time to do much research on that so far... Tire size...I'm thinkin 37/38 on 17" rims

Got my the new engine in and all linked up, but now my computer won't run the engine

Anybody got a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) out of a 97 TJ or other TJ without a SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer Module) I could buy or borrow for troubleshooting?

Alright. So I got a new PCM from a less fortunate junkyard Wrangler for 125 and popped it in... Good news, all my gauges come on, my fuel pump turns on like usual, and the plugs and injectors are firing when I try to crank it. Bad news, still not starting. Exhaust is coming out of the intake. Went through the timing procedure, but still not starting...

Gonna fiddle with it some more, but at least I"m closer to gettin er goin...

Really sounds like its 360 degrees out. How did you determine which TDC stroke you were at without pulling the valve cover? The timing mark on the crank will line up twice per firing cycle. Once at compression and again at the end of exhaust.

I think 360 degree would put you back in the same position, You may mean 180 degrees out which is what I was thinking.

No, a motor spins 2 rotations or 720 degrees per firing cycle. There are 2 top dead centers one at the end of the compression stroke, the other at the end exhaust. They have very different valve behaviors.

Ok

Edit:

I agree that the crank turns twice, but the cam is turning slower/half as fast. The distributor is driven by the cam. If you set up your distributor on the incorrect/opposite TDC the rotor m pretty sure this is considered 180 degrees off, distributor orientation. Its true that the crank is 360 off, but I have never heard it called that. I was not trying to offend and I think we are talking about the same thing.

Second edit:

I could also just not know what the Hell I am talking about, if so I apologize.

You didn't offend me Charles haha. I may be off on my terminology too. I think we are talking about the same thing.
