Got new tires for the Discovery but I made the mistake of getting load range C tires for a vehicle that weighs nearly 6500 lbs, so now I need to get more new tires in a load range E. Fun fun, They have no more than 100 miles on them and are badass looking tires but i'm not going to risk a blowout, even if it is unlikely, Murphys Law seems to follow me everywhere. They are 170 new so I am thinking $500 for 4 plus a matching spare with 50% tread. Let me know if you're interested they are on my Rover now so you can see what they look like. they are 31.7'' I think

You most certainly do not need load range E tires. My truck doesn't need load range E tires with the heaviest load I've ever towed with it. Load range C tires are 6-ply and for light duty trucks, just what your Land Rover is considered. Save yourself the hassle and keep them. Only get new tires if you are getting bigger tires

Edit: Add up the max load for all four tires then look at your door jamb sticker. I'd be willing to bet that the combined tire weight ratings is more than your GVWR.

You're probably right, I think I'm just used to the ways E's ride and am not used to the "squishyness" of a C plus they will likely wear faster due to the increased road contact on each tire.

I'm seeing GVWR of ~6,500 pounds and a curb of around 4,700-4,800. The tires are rated at 2,470 max load. 2,470 x 4 = 9,880. Within the limits but, I don't see why he couldn't run E's. In my opinion, as heavy and tall as it is, I think it needs all the help it can from stiffer sidewalls.

For comparison sake, our specific model LR3 is curbing 5,880 and GVWR is ~7,500 IIRC. I asked today what load range tires are on it. LR's are heavy pigs.

I agree its within the limits but it is just about piece of mind.

Good info Michael. I thought 6.500lbs sounded way off.

They will also be much more expensive and will not wheel as well. Don't be that "Heavy Duty for no reason" guy. Run what you need and what the vehicle calls for.

Yeah that would be with people, gear, and what not, my bad. Pretty sure I am already "that guy" in all these situations being that I own a Land Rover

Probably still going to get E's. Overkill? Probably, First world problems? Absolutely, I suppose I just got used to my old tires and liked the way they felt on the road, plus they lasted a long time and I like the insurance of a couple extra plys when off roading, even if I have to air down a lot.

Still for sale even though no one in the club will likely buy them.

IMHO I agree with your decision for E's. Like I said above, its heavy and top heavy, added sidewall strength should help negate the squishy feeling.

Of course you do.

Matt, have you considered running load range D's? It seems like a lot of people forget about those and go C to E or vice versa.

Yes I do. Maybe I should explain further.

Land Rover recommends a minimum rating of a D-Load Range, that is what the OE tires are. We have D's on our LR3 and my uncle stepped up to E's on his LR4. He told me that he bought C's on it previously roasted them in less than 20k miles. That is why I say go to E's, while D's are also viable, if the said tires comes in D range.

Yeah already ordered them. D would have been fine but I looked and it wasn't offered in the size I wanted.... so Es it will be. Probably the last set of tires I will put on it so I wanted them to last as long as they can.

Do you plan on selling it and going with something else?

If you still have the 265/75R16's in a load range C I might be interested in them for my 4runner.
