Did i just buy a tow pig for a coilovered tj on 33??

Post by redneckrapunzel »

So yea cause i have 33's i need a tow rig cause i'm a jeep kid ... :confused2: :confused2:
So like normal i was talking to someone (alec) for a long time (a minute or two) and now i have a 2004 F250 superduty 4x4.
Specs:
5.4 V8 (pretty much a powerstroke in my mind)
198xxx miles (just breaking it in right?? :confused2: :confused2: )
6 speed ZF6 - (more gears than Alec's truck)
265/75/16 nitto grappler g2 AT's
4.10 gears in a sterling 10.5 and hp60 (for all that dont know that is what a superduty comes with) - maybe a limited slip in the rear not sure though
single cab - long bed
tow mirrors (increase towing capability by atleast 5000lbs and +100hp)
Sweet K&N filter

as seen in these picture it has a great capacity for being towed!!

And thanks alot to Alec for 1 finding the truck and 2 driving 5 hours total today to get it and tow it back to the bburg

pretty soon gonna be able to drive round town like

it was cheap thats why i bought it

You didn't say the whole reason for buying the truck was how cheap it was

Tore into the tranny last night, got it mostly out will finish up tomorrow when the new clutch arrives, also ordered new front ball joints the passenger side are no good. Brakes and rotors are all in great shape.

And idk how but this truck has no rust at all and none of the bolts have been rusted in place its been great to work on, im used to rusty shit.

then to get it passed inspection all that i need to do should be to fix the ABS, airbag, and parking break lights which all stay on all the time.

Nice, tearing into it quickly! You'll have a running truck in no time. Until the 5.4 two piece spark plugs drop into the motor... :flipoff2: (If it is the 3 valve between 05-08 hah)

its only 2 piece after i break that shit :flipoff2: :flipoff2: and not its not a 3 valve because its from 2004... said that. But the earlier motors had problems with breaking spark pluts as well

Oh, I see the 2004 up on the original post, it was on the far side and I missed it.

They have revisions for one piece plugs. I have also read that changing them while the motor is hot helps get them out easier.

yea and its pretty rare that someone would put 2 piece plugs back into these motors from what ive read online and since so far it seems like everything on this motor has been serviced i dont think i would have a huge issue if it was a 2005 or later because it would have 1 piece plugs in it.

Yeah for sure, most everyone puts in the revision or a solid, 1-piece. Speaking of service, did you get an records or anything, or do you know if it was maintained well?

no recorded but was a company truck so I assume it was well maintained because the company wanted them to be reliable since having them running good generated more income.

Also does anyone have any experience with camber/caster bushings with these ball joint 60s?
Last night i put all new ball joints in and when i put the knuckles back on the hubs dont line up very well and the shaft ears almost hit the zerk fitting on the upper ball joints and bolt on the lower. I know the concept and how they work just wondering if there is a way to measure to determine which one will be needed to have everything line back up straight.

I skimmed though this, maybe it'll help. http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/showt ... &showall=1

I did read that you are supposed to mark the camber plates so you can install them back where they were.

I know next to nothing about this but aren't you going to have to go get he camber/caster/toe set at an alignment place anyway? Or are we going for "close enough" :thumby:

Solid axles only have toe adjusted on a rack. Caster is set and camber is only minutely adjustable with said bushings or sleeves. Camber adjustments are done in assembly not during an alignment check.

Gotcha. I was thinking that these ball joints were offset or capable a of "more than negligible" adjustment by the "camber plate". All new to me in the last 30 min. The one write-up I read said that a shop did the setup/adjustment after the install unless I read it wrong.

Long story short, ball joints suck. Even in my S-D30 lol.

After fighting with ball joints, shaft seals, and locking hubs for many hours finally got the hubs completely back together and should be good to go. Also have found solutions for both the airbag light and parking brake light being on. Once I get the new clutch in and fix the ABS system truck should be good to go.
