Thinking about spending all my money for the foreseeable future to build a full tube chassis rig... maybe find my way to some Ultra-4 if i get drunk enough. Been looking around and thinking that wide open design chassis looks the best bet, think a fab 9 front kingpin outer and what not, shaved 14b or sterling 10.25 rear. big block motor built tranny and 205 tcase, 3" coilovers, full hydro blah blah blah... nothing fancy except the whole fucking thing. Just wanna spend a shit ton and build a sweat go fast rock rig, hammer down and party. Anyone else ever looked into premade chassis? from everything ive seen hard to beat for the price and quality of work.. and i just think the lines on the wide open design chassis look the best.
For all that think im an idoit... I agree 100% but at least ill have a pile of cool parts and empty beer cans.

Have you looked at the Goatbuilt chassis? Seems like the best option for not rich people.
You think your Dad and brother are going to let you keep a project in the garage for 2 years?

Ive seen them just don't like the look quite as much. Also Wide Open Design is in Tennessee so I could drive down and pick a chassis up instead of having to ship it which would save a lot of money. Goat Built is in Wisconsin a little to far to drive. But the price is much nicer. Also I believe there are some nice design advantages of the wide open designs like using stronger tubing across the belly and other factors like that. I couldn't for sure say that the Goat chassis arnt the same but I don't believe they are. I believe the whole chassis is just 1.75 120 wall where as the wide open design bellies are like 1.75 .188 wall. definitely not worth the extra 2k but just a bunch of little things like that do add up.

Keep in mind if you are cereal about wanting to do something like a 4500 class later-on, you'll need 2" OD tube.

Also the chassis can be 1.75 if the car is under 4400lbs dry. and that's why im living at home and gonna have no money but ill have a rig. id say for 40k you could build a rig to run ultra 4 that would definitely not be that awesome in comparison but would be a hell of a time.
change the coilovers to 2.5" 14" cause that is the biggest they will let you run :(

That's a tight weight limit. I doubt you could hit that with a big block. A 454, TH400, and Atlas would be a third of that.
$40,000 is a bit shy I think. I have $30,000 in my rig and it is built with budget and used parts, and it already had an engine, chassis, transmission, tcase, etc. The safety equipment will be $10,000 alone, no freebies like Rally. Plus the several thousand dollars to get out there. Give yourself an extra $20,000 and call me to drive out with you and be your pit support

We'll have a race! You build your tube chassis 4500 and I'll put tons and 42's on the JK. First one to moab wins.
