5'x10' Utility Trailer Build

Post by BadAssEddie »

I am almost done building this trailer for my dad as a replacement for his homebrew jetski, turned cargo trailer. It is a 2"x2" frame, 2"x2" box, 3500lb trailer (2,999lb GVW to skirt breaks and inspections). I will add more detail to the build later on, but for now, just going to dump some pictures. Need to update my plans and BOM and post those too. Hit me up if anyone wants one, I'm trying to make a couple more to sell.

I will be paint prepping this weekend. Axle is slung now, so wiring and gate latch are the two things that remain build wise. Going to add a few tie downs, and finish the decking while I wait on the VIN plate and title.

Cool project, post some more pics. Will you have to get it titled somehow?

I'll be posting pics next week probably. Got to get some more done instead of posting 2 or 3.

I have a VA DMV form that is for home-made trailers where they issue a VIN and have the VSP come out to do an inspection for $5. One of the biggest reasons I chose a 2,999 lb GVW, to avoid the $150 registration and inspection fee of a braked trailer. So, it will be all on the up and up, have a VIN, title, and registration.

I thought I took more pictures, but these are all I have. I was happy with the finished product and am going to make a second one soon to sell. Tweaked my plans a bit from the mess ups I had making it and the VIN/titling process was really simple.

Had to spread the frame out for the tailgate

I used it once and forgot how nice it is to have a trailer where everything doesn't need to be strapped down. I might make one for myself too :thumby:

I agree, nice to be able to toss things into it and not worry too much about straps.

Fun time putting it together and doing some problem solving along the way.
