haha, yeah we thought about that, but just how hot the fire burned and how thoroughly it burned seems like it was set. everything thats not metal is gone, the t-case is melted as is the glass and the rear driveshaft looks like it popped like a bag of popcorn

I looks as if you guys were venturing off the designated trail. Is that area a legitimate location to wheel?

Yes, it's legitimate. Locally we refer to it as Bobcat cause the one end opens up at Bobcat Lane. At this end the land is private, and the owner keeps the gate open for anyone to access the trail. The other end dumps out to the fire road on Brush Mtn, and it's all open to public use (for now at least).

Most but not all of the problems are at the fire road end, because every redneck and college drunk goes up to the circle at the end of the fire road to have bonfire parties.

Josh, there are two main ways out of the bottom of Bobcat - both are through private property. Like Eric said - the one way is open with the owner's blessing. The other land owner has made it very clear he does not want trespassers. So you might be thinking of that owner.

Has anyone checked with the Blacksburg Rangers to see what happened? They have had problems with burning vehcicles up there before. This is the sort of thing that could get the trail closed in a hurry.

I called the Blacksburg ranger office today. The guy I talked to didn't know much about the truck up there, and their law enforcement guy was out of the office. However, the guy I talked to mentioned he thought there were two vehicles involved. Anyway, I left him my contact info and offered to help with the cleanup. I'll let ya'll know if I hear anything from them.

I got a call back from the forest service yesterday. Price's Chevron got the jeep out thursday morning. They really appreciated the offer to help get it out of there though. The guy also mentioned that he'd appreciate any information we had on when/where other problems are occuring. Mainly he mentioned people spinning tires and tearing up the trails and even the roads.
