it'll be a 70's/80's chevy 4x4 pickup and/or blazer, from where I don't know, but it'll be moved to blacksburg, I'm looking for an actual truck to take parts of off right now, so whether I find one that runs is up in the air.
Heres a question though, can you tow (w/dolly) a K5 if you place the broken axle shaft still attached to the tire in the housing and place that end on the dolly???? or think it'd be to unsafe?

K5s have semi-floating axles, so IIRC you should be ok, so long as the front wheels don't steer themselves.

the big concerns with front-down towing are that the steering column needs to lock, and that the wheelbearings and other frontend parts are all in good shape. depending where the rear shaft is broken, it could be safe front-down, but I still wouldn't do it. not unless it's a full-float axle, which the K5 won't be.
I'd say that since you're not sure about the shape of the vehicle, and you may be coming a long way, a full trailer is going to be your best bet.

chvyfan, what parts are you looking for? I know where a couple of good Chevy parts trucks are, about 2.5-3 hours away.
PM me with what you're looking for and how much you're willing to spend and I'll see what I can do.
