FS: '81 toyota stuff (22R engine, tranny, misc stuff)

Post by maybs »

I'm selling everything off of an '81 toyota pickup, except for the stuff I bought it for, of course. I'm keeping the axles, driveshafts, springs, and t-case. The truck has 102k miles on it, and the engine is running great. I can borrow a couple plug wires from the sammy again if you want to hear it run.

$200 - 22R engine (with radiator, fan shroud, new spark plugs and air filter, wiring harness, tubes, hoses... every freakin thing except it will need plug wires)

$50 - L45 4-speed transmission (previous owner says he had new bearings put in)

Let me know if there's anything else you want... hood, fender, gauge cluster, windshield, back glass, headlights, whatever you might want (doors may already be spoken for)... The cab is in poor condition, you don't want it.

Does the tranny have a removable bell housing? Were you able to drive the truck to know the condition of the tranny?

Would you sell the oil pan and oil pickup off the 22r?

The tranny is one piece, and I drove the truck around the neighborhood and didn't notice any problems. The only reason this truck was retired from service was the frame rot (darn near complete separation) at the rear spring hangers. I'd like to sell the complete engine.

I have to do some research on the difference between your tranny and the L50/52. There’s a good possibility I’ll take it off your hands.

I don't remember if it has a tach or not, but I'll try to remember to check when I go home for lunch. I don't have any plans this evening if you want to stop by after work.

EDIT: the gauge cluster has no tach

I mean as far as strength and bearing failure differences.

there is no difference at all in strength. both use the exact same parts, one just has a secondary shaft with 5th gear on it and the other doesnt. its actually pretty common for people to swap in the 5th gear out of a 52 into a 45 .... direct swap.

I was hopping that was the case. Thanks for the info

Mabys when’s a good time for me to take a look at it?

I've not pulled anything from the truck yet. I was going to give people
a chance to hear the engine run if they were interested in it.... and I
was planning on making a big hole in the front to pull the engine +
tranny + tcase out in one piece. Since I've not heard any interest in
the engine on here I'll get stuff pulled as soon as I can.

If you want to just see it under the truck, I should be around Saturday
evening and all day Sunday.

I hate to do this to you guys, but I'm changing direction with where I want the sammy to end up, and it includes eventually dropping in the 22R (propane-powered), which also means I'll need to keep the tranny. Sorry for the tease.

The truck is looking pretty stripped, but if there's any tidbit you want, speak now before it gets hauled off (still won't be for a week or two considering the amount of time I'm getting to work on it).

Here's what has been taken (all the good stuff basically):
engine/tranny/tcase
driveshafts
axles
steering linkage
hood
doors
passenger fender

The only other large useful items that stand out to me are the windshield, back glass, and gas tank.
