10.25FF destruction....

Some pictures as per leach's request:

A little background info for those wondering, thats the 10.25FF under my F-250, left a stoplight a little too hard and sheard all eight hub bolts off, I thought it was kinda of an interesting breakage, never really seen anything like it before.

Were the bolts torqued down all the way? If they were loose then less of the load would be carried by the friction between the clamped surfaces. By themselves the bolts really can't carry a lot of shear load.

Well, I can't rule out the fact if they were loose or not, but they were torqued to spec. last time I had it apart, also the bolts on the other side were still tight, so IDK.

I'd bet a dollar that they were loose and have been fatiguing for some time before it failed. So how are you gonna get the broken studs out?

Actually this happened some time ago. It took an hour or so with a cordless drill and some easy outs, those bolts were stupid hard. Also most of them didn't unscrew very easily(but a couple did), not sure if that would tell if they were tight or not.

they were probably bent or deformed enough from the breakage that the threads dragged a lot more.

Yeah thats a good possibility. I haven't been having good luck with the drivetrain on that truck lately, esp. considering only the very light-wheeling that it sees. I blew out a hub/stub-shaft in the D50 last thursday

mmm carnage. Whether or not the bolts were tight, the skinny pedal had something to do with that. Nice pics man.
