Steel selection

The plan is to finally build my rock sliders this winter. The way steel prices are up, and not wanting to weigh the truck down more than necessary, I don't want to over-build. What wall thickness would I want if I used 1.5" round tube? 1.5" square? Etc.

i made mine out of 2" square. i think it was 3/16" wall(i dont remember exactly, it was whatever i had laying around). just cut the angle i wanted for the kickouts.

Fabricators are mostly using 1.75" round 3/16" wall for their sliders. I looked around on Pirate and most of those guys are running 3/16 wall and say it's pretty tough, so I'm gonna go with that, prolly 1.5" square for under the rocker and 1.5" round for the outer step. They should end up roughly 50lbs each that way. I think I powerwashed 50lbs of mud off the bottom of my truck today, so I can be happy with that amount of added weight.

mine are 2x2 .25" wall for the square, 2" .120 wall for the round. I'd guess they're about 75-85 lbs total. its better to overbuild stuff like sliders anyway. wieght shouldn't really be a consideration for the most part.
