dotn let preston torque your wheel bearings ....
and dont drive on them when the wheel hub has 1/4" of play betweehn it and the spindle ....
lastly, DO NOT, under any circumstances, keep driving on said bad bearings ... unless you are just too broke to fix it anyway, like i am.
exactly how we found it after removing the hub
grease in the hub .... it was more of the consistency of clay though ... with lots of glitter
i didnt ball this up, it fell out of the hub like this .... apparently it doesnt lubricate very well in this state
lol
kind of funny, to me
seal spring and some pieces of the bearing cage
wheel seal ... kind of
yay for heat induced cracks!
all that is left of the bearing cage
so yeah ... thats my story and im sticking to it.
very important wheel bearing tech!!! must read!!

also make sure you read off the correct torque spec in the Haynes manual!
you had called me back then when you first did the wheelbearings and asked me for the torque spec too. you should have listened to me!
after torquing to 35ft-lbs and spinning the rotor to seat the bearings, back off the nut 1/4 turn. the double-nuts with lockwasher get 16 INCH-lbs on the inner nut and 150 ft-lbs on the outer. the newer style single-nuts with the built in spring thinger get the 25ft-lbs.

I still got you on that one.
My Trailduster had a wheel bearing go so bad that there was no cage or bearings left. I have yet to get the hub off. It seized the inner spindle nut to the spindle. I am going to have to torch the spindle nut off so I can get the hub off.
Not sure where the cage and bearings went, but they aren't in the hub.......
