d30 vacum diconect
The old 30's (like mine) have a vacum disconect so that the fronbt axle is only engauged when in 4wd. I'm having some trouble with the vacum working right. You can gtake the control apart on the axle and shim it so that it is always engauged. Anyone see a problem or heard problems about this? 30's now are engauged all the time.

i've never had the vacume driver apart on one, but i can see that being easy enough. just buy a good heavy control cable of some sort and hack off the diaphram. simple enough i guess..... hook us up w/ some pics if you go that way. also, you can use a standard long side shaft and just put a plate over the hole. if you dont want the cheapo 2-low option......

ya, i know how i can do it. The problem is that the guy helping me do my SYE cut the shift rail too short. I'm going to try and replace the shift rail first because i have to take the T-case apart anyways. Just wondering if anyone has heard a down side. About the pics, my camera broke or i'd post up some pics of all the work we've been doing on my jeep family.

i think you missunderstood. use the vaccume disconnect piece on the axle to do the 2-low conversion. you can just pull a cable to engage/disengage the front axle..... use the CAD (central axle disconnect) system to make a useful tool out of it. no messin w/ the t-case to do that if you have the disco axle.
