best doubler for my rig
Hey
i am investigating putting a doubler in my scrambler.
here what I have sitting in my wasteland of vehicles behind my place:
an SM465/np205 (pass drop) setup from a full size blazer i believe?
a T176/d300 currently in my scrambler
a T5/d300 in my parts scrambler
I think Id like to have an sm465/np203/d300 setup???? comments?
ideas?
thanks
Chris

Thanks for starting the new thread. I didn't want to completely hijack the for sale thread.
First of all, to maintain my integrity in the Chevy truck world, sell the Scrambler and get yourself a real truck.
Second, you sure you want to stick with a manual? If not, I would think about a TH350/doubler. If you want to stay manual, a 465 is the cheapest option to match up with the sb 400. From there, the sky is the limit if you can hook it up. As much as I love my ORD Doubler (and I personally know the owners and staff of ORD), you might want to think about a 231 or 241 "doubler" with D300 behind it. Unless you plan on really hardcore wheeling, large tires, or carrying a lot of weight (or any combo fo these), a 203/205 doubler is a bit of overkill for a Jeep (IMO of course). Check out this adapter for a 231 (and 241 is still making them):

I don't know much about the 231, but you should easily find a 465 from a 80's GM truck with a 208, find a 231 from an S10, and bolt it up. Might need to research to confirm, but I believe this will work.

And I have a 203 from behind a th350, but no adapter if you choose to go that route.
I think any combo stated would be a fine idea. I'm partial to the 203/205, but the 203/300 is nice, and there'd be nothing wrong with a 231 or 241 to 300. You can find adapters for all these setups nowadays without spending a ridiculous amount of money which only makes your decision harder.

hmmm
Beacuse I already have an sm465 and a D300, I think I am leaning towards the SM465/np203/D300 setup. if I am guessing correctly, I will then get 6.55*2*2.6 for my ratio.
also: will my current adapter (sm465/np205) work between an SM465/np203??
then I pretty much would only need an np203/d300 adapter... correct?
in terms of axles, when I gather my funds, I think I am considering a d60f/d70 rear from an M715 (5.87 stock gears, Id try to convert to disk brakes and probably weld spider gears) and, AFAIK that would give me 6.55*2*2.6*5.87 which would give me an extremely AMERICAN final ratio of about 200:1
sound about right?

The only thing that you have a chance to fit in a wrangler is a np231 crawl box with a dana 300 (short tail housing) behind it. (about 1 inch longer setup then the stock np231). I plan to sell my np231 with the SYE to help with the cost of the Box4Rocks and just use a junkyard np231. Then I am gonna flip the dana 300 behind the np231 crawl box and use B&M cable shifters for the Twin stick dana 300 and np231.
Not a suggestion and I have no affiliation with seller but...

As far as the 203 to D300, I don't know what you can do with that. You can try and find an old ORD Doubler that made the back of the 203 look like a X transmission (my old Doubler looked like a TH350 and mated to a TH350 version 205 using a factory adapter. So in your case, you would need one that mated a 465 version 205 and then use your current adapter to the D300. Another option I am aware of is possibly Northwest Fab ( http://northwestfab.com/index.htm )works can do something custom for you.GM SM465 4 speed Manual Transmission:
If you have an SM465 transmission there are 3 ways to mate it to the NP203.
1: Use a factory configuration. GM mated the NP203 to the SM465 in 1973-1975 using the 10 spline output in the 465, a 10 spline female input in the NP203 and a 4.25" adapter housing between the two. This configuration was used in a wide range of GM trucks but is somewhat rare. Problems are the 10 spline connection tends to wear in the long term and it's difficult to find. Positives would be the short length and the ability to use the common 10 spline output in the transmission.
2: Use a SM465 that was originally mated to an NP208 transfer case. This 465 will have a 32 spline output shaft with a 8 3/8" adapter housing. You'll use a NP203 gearbox with a 32 spline input gear and the face of the 203 drilled and tapped with the GM round bolt pattern to match up to the factory 208 adapter housing. This works very well if you have the available length in the vehicle since the parts are commonly available and the 32 spline connection is very strong and durable.
3. Use the factory SM465 to NP203 adapter housing with ORD's new 32 spline SM465 output shaft and a 32 spline input gear in the NP203. This allows the shortest overall length with the highest strength, most durable spline connection.
Edit: Looks like NWF already makes an adapter for a D300. I have heard of issues with the NWF Doubler, though (specifically breaking the adapter).
