Saturn engine swap

Post by Ctrow »

Alright, I know it's not a 4x4 but i need some help. As many of you know I cracked the block of my saturn a few months ago and since then it's been sitting in my driveway. I'm tired of looking at it while i drive my gas drinkers, so it's time to get it running. I've never done a transverse engine before, so i was wondering if anyone would be willing to help that had some knowledge. First I need some numbers of junkyards that might have an engine for a decent price. Next I'll need a location, engine hoist, and a helping hand. Having the help of someone that know a little about front wheel drives and these crazy sideways engines would be awesome and i'd be willing to pay in more then just beer and food.

thanks, ctrow

I don't know about the location, but I'll help as much as I can (you know, baby and all) :thumby:

The best thing I know to tell you is to get a phone book and look under auto parts used. There is also a listing on here somewhere, For Sale section I think of local bone yards.

CTrow,

D&M is likely to have one. It will not be nice and it may be dirty but it will be somewhat affordable..

I can most likely hook you up with an engine hoist.

Back in my high school days we pulled the engine out of an Acura and it only took a handful of beverages and a night's work. Pull the CV shafts, whatever kind of shift linkage it has, and all the fun hoses and wires. The Acura had a retarted motor mount that went through the timing belt if I recall.

Sounds good. I've been reading up in the Hanes manual and I think it might be the same deal with the timing chain.

Gay, I've called around to a bunch of yards in cburg and bburg and No one has the dual overhead cam. the best i got was Bills said they could get me one for $1200 (little out of my price range). It's a 1996 saturn SL with a dual overhead cam four cylinder 1.9L. If anyone can find one for a good price in a 2 hour radius.

Caleb, go on car-part.com and do a search. I just did and found one in WV for $450, and a few others in the $500-$650 range within 100 miles. Set USA as your location and sort by zip code.

What about this car:

Alot of miles, but might have a good engine. You could take your starter and try it. Might be worth a shot.

thanks, i checked it out and it looks like they use the same starter. I'd rather swap a starter instead of a motor any day

Is that an Al block?

Who bothers to put a motor in a saturn? Just go buy another.
