Thats not true. I confirmed this with the tools manager at sears. (I also work at sears so he wasn't just trying to sell to me. If you look at them side by side you can tell a difference.)

You get 10% off of the hard side and 20% off the soft side. The discount is OK, but the real advantage is knowing when the big sales are plus getting the discount on top of the sales. I know we're hiring for some things. Maybe appliances. Appliances is where people make the most money, but spring time is good for tools because its lawn tractor season.
You can apply on line and if you do, put me as a reference and I'll make some extra cash. Most people generally make about $400 - $500 every 2 weeks.
