77 Cherokee Chief

Post by Andrew »

77 Cherokee Chief
360 V8 Edelbrock Carbs. No knocks, good oil pressure.
Turbo 400 transmission.
BW 1305 Transfercase with lowrange, part time conversion, and lockout hubs

Runs and drives. Would make an excellent trail Jeep or could even be put back on the road. The frame is in excellent shape. It is ugly but in surprisingly good shape. All the body mounts, floor supports, etc. are there. Have pulled skid plates and various other things, and have yet to break a rusted bolt.

Now $700 will consider offers.

Thanks,
Andrew

Whats wrong with it to where it needs to be put back on the road?

Here's the deal

Post by Andrew »

I saw it sitting in somebody's yard. Bought it for the Warn 8274 on the front (not included BTW). Got it home. Got it running. Put a new waterpump in it. Fixed the fuel filler.

Needs a tune up mostly. I think it'll need an alternator (it's a GM alt so it's cheap). Would need new tires. Haven't looked at the brakes, but they feel fine. All the lights are there. Suspension and steering looks and feels good.

The biggest thing about it is that it's just really really fugly. Interior is beat. I started ripping the carpet out because it's falling apart.

The carburetor definitely needs a rebuild. Accelerator pump doesn't appear to be working. The motor sounds mechanically good, but right now is running rough (missing and such).

Regarding the rust holes in the floor boards. I took a screw driver and chiseled all the the loose stuff away. What you see is solid.

I only took pictures of the passenger side body underneath (didn't feel like crawling in the mud on the driver side). The drive side looks about the same though.

I didn't take pictures of the driver side rocker because a couple of the screws were stripped. Did manage to get the passenger side though. The driver side looks to be in about the same condition.

Yeah

I am planning on doing some more work on it this weekend. The more work I do, the better it runs, the less receptive to offers I become. Hint Hint.

Alright.

UPDATE

Got the thing running pretty good. Ended up having to drain the gas tank, new spark plugs, and put a fuel pump in it. Still needs cap, rotor, wires. Will probably do a MC HEI hybrid setup here eventually.

Drove it up and down the road. Transmission, steering, brakes, etc. all seem to be in good working order.
