Job up for grabs: D60 rear into a 86 K5

Post by chvyfan »

currently my blazer is sittin ass end on jacks. I have a Dana 60 rear to put in it to replace the busted 10bolt.

Job would be:
welding leaf pads to axle (cleaning required)
installing ujoint adapter(?) 1/2ton to 1 ton
possible rebuild of axle
swap into the truck.

peices I have already is the said axle and leaf pads

the kicker here is the truck needs to be moved (ideally to your location rather than my apartment parking lot). It's currently at a friends place in Pembroke and his wife has stopped bitchin about it and set a deadline for me to have it gone. If you have your own means to move it, great, if not I will have it towed.

once moved this can be done at any pace ideally within a year.

get with me, we can discuss the whole $$$ deal
if your game you can take a 12bolt rear I have and/or the busted 10bolt in exchange for some of the work.

The #1 point here is it needs to move.

540-607-1119 gimme a call anytime, just leave a voicemail w/ur number or pm me.

anything is much appreciated

Why a 60? What is it out of?

Why not a 14 bolt (much easier, gears/lockers cheaper, potentially much stronger)?

What are you doing for the front? 6 lug for now? Have you looked for 3/4 ton 8 lug parts? What about gear swap to match the front?

What about wheels and tires?

Huge offer here: buy a 14 bolt (73-87 3/4 ton version, maybe from Benny?), I'll help you gather the few parts you need, and I'll show you how and provide tools to do it yourself. Easy 4 hour (really much less) job.

Will that fit a 1 ton? I think the springs on a 1 ton are wider, no?

Spring pad width is different on 1 ton solid axle trucks compared to similar 12/ and 3/4 ton trucks. Spring width has been the same on GM trucks for a long time. That kit is likely just a front spring/rear block lift. The only part that might not work on a 3/4 or 1 ton is the rear U bolts, or the front U bolts on a 1 ton (or any D60 application).
