Need help building extended front drive shaft.

I need help extending my front drive shaft on my 84 PU project. I know some of you have done this before. Let me know.

they are not sloppy at all if you use the right materials ....

2 x 2 x 0.250 and 2.5 x 2.5 x 0.250 will have no slop. you will have to grind a notch int he smaller tubing for the weld seam inside the larger tubing ... and likely have to grind the surface of the smaller tubing to get it to fit.

i built front and rears for my 83 mini ... and neither had any slop in them

but yes ... they can vibrate like hell. but if its a front shaft, it wont be as bad ... unless you enjoy driving in 4wd at high speeds to kill your fuel economy.

my front was ok up to about 30 mph ... the rear vibrated like hell at any speeds exceeding 10.

if you want it done right and cheap take it to valley truck and trailer in roanoke they do a good job.... if you cant feel vibrations in tractor trailer driveline you wont be able to feel it in a toyotas

what front springs r u running. Stock slip wont be enough and it will come apart.

Right now I am running 4" allpro's in the front that I got from Matt. They are new so they haven't settled yet, but I don't expect to settle much more than 1.5-2" though.

As it stands right now the stock drive shaft will almost come apart when sitting on flat ground. There might be 1" of splines keeping it together. As soon as there is any droop it comes apart.

I would like to do it right the first time so it doesn't cost me more money in the long run. I think I am going to stay away from a square shaft for now. I will go square when I start towing it to trails.

Like I was saying last night you will need more slip, like the kit Matt linked you too. Then you can take it to one of the shops and have it made up. The reason why people go square is because you can get your extra slip very cheap. Unless you r staying on the road, a stock slip does not have enough travel.
