You really need to look at that gov-loc. Usually blowing up the gov-loc is what causes GM axles to go bad. Look for holes in the rear diff cover where little pieces of the latching block assembly came through the cover when it went. Not trying to say yours is 100% the cause, but it's super common and I'd hate to see you get a bad rep as a seller...

well here's the deal, the axle was rebuilt about 2 years ago. I just got the truck over thanksgiving, btw. the PO was snatching a stump out of the ground and jacked up the truck kinda bad (broke the rear window, dented the rear quarter panel and bent the hitch. Im almost positive that the ring pinion broke because of the net force imposed on the truck when it accelerated to a dead stop when the strap became taught. that seems to be the only problem with the rear. all the bearings and seals are new. I would just replace the gear myself and keep the posi but i want to put a 14 bolt in its place.
I will give the posi a good look over however though.
