6.2L diesel, sandblasting in Blacksburg? media for blasting?

Post by scrambler »

Hello,

Could use some 6.2L help here soon. I may have snagged a turbo setup. Will be pulling motor from M1008 to put into scrambler soon.

Anyone who wants to wrench I will feed you and beer you, or trade parts.
installing flywheel parts, mani-gaskets, turbo, alternator, fab motor mounts, out-boarding springs, etc etc

NEXT:

Sandblasting: anyone have a gun I can borrow? where is a good source for sand? the guys at havener will rent you one, but don't know where to get sand for it, they say Lowe's, HD don't have, they know of no one who sources it, not tractor supply or anyone around here???

They must be wrong?

I have seen media at Tractor Supply. It aint cheap though. I have used play sand but you need to wear a respirator to avoid silicosis, as well as full body and eye protection. I personally would recommend taking it to someone that blast. Try the place down the hill from the Christiansburg High School. They do blasting just don't know how small of stuff.

Play sand also isnt as good as real media. Go ahead and buy the media and reuse it. You cant reuse play sand.

lol ... yes you can. as long as it isnt wet you can reuse it once or twice ... it just tends to turn to powder after a while.

and you wont get silicosis from sandblasting with play sand. i made that sand for over 4 years and even now i spend 2 or 3 months a year repairing equipment on a silica mine.

is it good for you? no. should you wear a respirator? yes. will it kill you the first time you sand blast with it if you dont use a respirator? no ... but it will eventually.
