Airbag Light on the WJ

Post by Yoda »

So I've had this problem a LONNGG time. Airbag light was on when I bought it, but I got a good deal on it from a family friend who is a dealer blah blah blah. He put a new clock spring it at cost of the parts. Went of for about a month, then came back on.

It would always come on and off randomly. Came on and stayed on sometimes. This a happened last year around when I had to get it inspected (of course). Took it to the dealer (they were the only ones who could flippin read the codes locally w/e) they said it needed a new clock spring. This was about 2 years after the first replacement. They gave me a decent price so I obliged. They replaced it and it didn't fix the problem (thankfully they didn't charge me). They said it needed a new airbag ($700-800 bucks eff no). Picked up a junkyard airbag and threw it in there. No go. Light still on.

Light still was coming on and off randomly until about 2 months ago when it just came on and stayed on. Thought it might be something else like a sensor so I took it to the dealer here at home. (They charged me $97 to read the effin codes...I about kicked the dumb lady who worked there in the teeth). The codes were #2 squib short on the drivers side (which I already knew), and they said it needed a new clockspring despite what I told them. Can you say stealership?

So I just pulled the airbag and clockspring to test them myself and they both checked out fine. Anyone have any idea where I should start next. I was trying to check for shorts in the wiring harnesses but wasn't sure where to start really. Any ideas? I need to get this fixed so I can get it inspected (got a speeding ticket the other day, only 13 over, but I got a nice little expired inspection too..grr)
