I think I have all the pieces to the puzzle.

Post by YJ »

For the last couple of months I've been aquiring the main components for my "build". I'm sure Leach is glad I have all the big stuff so I won't bother him anymore. :lol2: Here's what I have thus far:

350/350 motor/tranny

Dana 300 t/case

Dana 44/60 3/4 ton 8 lug axles (complete)

And of course the Jeep to do it all to.

I think I may do the axles and t/case first and run the current engine and tranny a while. I'm seriously considering a Cummins 4BT diesel instead of the 350. End result I am shooting for is a hard core, off road rig that I can still beat around on the highway in. SOA, 38's-40's on about 17's or so, track bar, custom skids, rockers, fenders, ect, half hard top conversion, and on and on. Depending on how much free time I can get will be a factor in how long it takes to complete. Any suggestions are appreciated and any help with it will be rewarded.

I personally don't think a diesel is very good off road. I've wheeled a couple and given the same power level for each they really don't compare to a gasser. Too heavy and the per-gear RPM potential is severly limited. I think you'd be much happier with a nicely built 350. The windsor I built for my '79 puts out the same torque, more hp, is quite a bit lighter and will turn 5,500+ rpms, I think something like that would make you happier for all around wheeling.

What kinda carb did you put on yours? I want to make sure I don't get one of those if I do go ahead with gas. :lol2:

Then I could rig up a gas grill on the receiver hitch and really tailgate!

Congrats on the purchases man. I will post up later some pics of a buggy built recently here in NC with a 4bt. He seems to like it so far.
