Help me and my poor old chevy out!

Post by offroadchevyguy »

Alright guys I'm putting my truck back together after the motor decided to go KKAAAAABBOOOOOOOMMMMMMM. Its a 78 Chevy standard cab...I have little axles and I wanna run the biggist tire possible, any thoughts as to how big I can go with a 2 inch lift and a 12 bolt and a dana 44, its got a np203 T case as best i can tell and a new tranny, the motor is either gonna be the current 350 storked to a 383 or the LT1 thats sitting in my dads garage with no computer currently ( anyone got any ideas as to where i could get one?) don't say junkyard cause i can't find one. I would be greatful for any feedback.

383 is easier Id say than trying to deal with all the fuel injection stuff plus its probably less expensive too. Cant go wrong with a stroker...I know where you can find a running TBI 350 but it includes the whole Jimmy so I dunno...

Well I almost have the junk back together, after taking it to a machine shop, the guy told me alot I didn't know bout the old girl. One 327 heads already shaved and ported out...plus. The block got board .030 so 355 now...plus. The faliure in the motor came from a borken ring that was probably done during instaltion of the damn thing so bein hittin on seven cyclinders for awhile...minus. But no machining was required cause nothing got damage some how, everyone has to see the piston that came out of it though it blew the top apart, might make it into the t case shit knob. But hopefully have it back in a few weeks, running lifted and regeared.....maybe even the t case doubler if i can ever afford to buy Wilfongs 205.
